Bon Voyage, Bob, Jillian, and Family!
Our Asian small-clawed otter family is moving to Washington D.C.! Bob, Jillian, and their 11 pups, sponsored by Peter and Pieter Crawford-van Meeuwen, have delighted guests here at the beautiful Santa Barbara Zoo over the past three years. The otter family will be going to the AZA-accredited Smithsonian National Zoo within the next month. Although we have to say good-bye to them, we will say hello to others, as we have a new male and female Asian small-clawed otter in quarantine who, the Zoo hopes, will also be given the go-ahead to breed in the next few years.
While we and our local community will miss this animal family, we are excited for them to help inspire even more people to appreciate conservation of the natural world. Visit soon and wish them well!
Introducing . . . Emmett!
The countdown has begun! The Zoo's newest train engine Emmett, sponsored by the Duncan Family and Rusty's Pizza Parlors, will soon be chugging his way around the Zoo.
In honor of Emmett's arrival, we have created Emmett's Conductors Club. This is fun way to learn more about the Zoo's trains and help keep them "choo-chooing" for many more years.
As a member of this exclusive club, you'll receive an invitation to a special welcome event with a behind-the-scenes look at Emmett, appearance in the club photo at the train station, a train fact sheet, an official Conductors Club button, and more!
