An evening of art and culture in downtown Santa Barbara.  On the first Thursday of each month, participating galleries and related venues offer free access to visual and performing art in a fun and social environment from 5-8 pm. Venues feature attractions such as art opening, live music, artists' receptions, lectures, wine tastings hand ands-on activities.  State Street comes alive with performances and interactive exhibits.

This Epicurean Adventure combines conviviality with elegant eating.  The Taste of the Town is Santa Barbara's original tasting event, featuring savory samples from 40 of Santa Barbara's finest restaurants and 41 premiere wineries.  All proceeds benefit the Arthritis Foundation.

Suzanne Goin will be this year's Celebrity Chef.  Suzanne is know for  LA's fine restaurants, Lucques, A.O.C. and Tavern. Suzanne and her husband David Lentz recently opened The Hungry Cat in Santa Barbara.

There is something for all ages, although this is not a happy place for todlers.

Santa Barbara's show does not rival the week show in Arizona, or even the one in Las Vegas...but it is pretty special.  Buyers, artists, jewelers and lookie-loos come from the tri-counties to join in this wonderful event. Classes and demonstrations in bead stringing, wire wrapping, cab making and lapidary arts are being held during the 3-day event.

Santa Barbara Polo Matches

Nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountain Range and the Pacific Ocean in the Carpinteria Valley lies the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club

Founded in 1911, the Santa Barbara Polo Club is the premiere equestrian Polo Club in the Western United States. The club consists of three full size outdoor polo fields, one arena, extensive horse boarding and exercise facilities, as well as stabling for 350 horses.

 The Santa Barbara Polo Club is home to the Pacific Coast Open, United States Polo Association (USPA), America Cup and the USPA Circuit Player Cup.

If you can attend only one game, be sure to attend the grand finale on Sunday, August 29th.  It is truly an exciting event. You will be up and close to the ponies and their players. It is truly a thrilling game to watch, even for the novice.The Pacific Coast Open currently enjoys participation of several internationally renowned Polo Players.

Polo School:  The Santa Barbara Polo Club is home to the Santa Barbara International Polo Training Center.  The SBIPTC is a polo school for beginning players, taught by John Westley.  The school teaches interscholastic, intercollegiate and adult player. Westmont College has seated a team for competition.

Artwalk at the Museum of Natural History September 26 & 27

Ahhh, fall is in the air...and although our days are still warm...the light has changed and it's Artwalk time at the SB Museum of Natural History! "From Realism to Abstraction, The California Landscape: featuring artists Patricia Doyle, Marilee Krause, Rick Garcia, Tom DeWalt, Pricilla Fossek, Camille Dellar and over 100 other artists. The Museum of Natural History is an immense local treasure! Annual Membership is nominal and supports our treasure. Santa Barbara Community College offers classes at the Planetarium, and the Museum library is an incredible research resource for for local students of all ages. In addition to the many and diverse permanent exhibits, the Museum offers numerous traveling exhibits such as: Zoo to You, Butterflies Alive, Dinosaurs, and many more.

Local community events are sponsored at the Museum on a regular basis. At Village Properties, the annual Open House for local teachers is conducted at the Museum Auditorium. This event kicks off our Teacher's Fund at the start of each School Year. More about this fabulous fundraiser in a future post.
