GREEK FESTIVAL 
celebrates its 43rd
Year
 on July 30th and 31st when Santa Barbara’s Oak

Park transforms into a Greek Village with all the sights, sounds, aromas, and
flavors that the Mediterranean has to offer. The Santa Barbara Greek Festival
is one of the oldest and largest ethnic festivals on the West Coast, and Santa
Barbara festival-goers know that this is their once-a-yearopportunity
to “Be Greek for the Weekend”!
FOOD!  Bring your appetite and indulge your tastes
for an authentically prepared Greek Feast of flavors, including moussaka, gyros,
dolmathes, spanakopita, tyropita, lemon chicken, paidakia (lamb lollipops), chicken
gyros, and souvlaki, along with fabulous desserts like baklava, kourabiedes (classic
Greek wedding cookies), koulourakia (twisted butter cookies), karithopita (moist
walnut cake), yiaourtopita (yogurt cake), and melomakarona (spicey cookies made
with honey & walnuts).

 Make your way to the Oak Park Stage and
join in the fun! Dance to the exciting rhythms and sounds of live Greek music.
Enjoy the performances of award-winning Greek Dance Troupes, including Santa

one of several vocal and instrumental performances each day by the fabulous Village
Greeks
 at the Parthenon Stage.

The Bartered Bride is a comedic tale, steeped in tradition, full of poignant moments and expansive Czech melodies. The lovely young Mařenka doesn’t want an arranged marriage, so the marriage broker is tricked into a contract that allows her to be betrothed to her true love. Lively dancing by the State Street Ballet and a colorful circus create an atmosphere all ages can enjoy.  Conducted by "Opera's 25-year old hope" (The New York Times) Matthew Aucoin.

      The Kardboard Kayak Race is where teams participate in a battle of wits,
      design, and courage.  Teams of up to 4 will receive 2 sheets
      of cardboard, 1 roll of tape, a marker, a utility knife, a yardstick, and
      one hour to construct a functioning kayak.  Then they will be ready to race 
      other teams in their heat, finding out whose design can hold up to the
      pressure of paddling out to a buoy and back. The Kardboard
      Kayak Races are divided into separate heats, with prizes awarded to
      participants in the Family Fun heat (geared to family groups with younger
      kayak paddlers) and the Paddling Pros heat (geared toward adult and/or
      "skilled" competitors).  Speed and construction design will be the true test!

      Concerts in the Park, the Parks and Recreation Department's popular free concert series, is back for 2016 with four great concert dates in July.
      Concerts in the Park shows are free in Chase Palm Park from 6:00–8:30PM on Thursday evenings and have become a Santa Barbara tradition since the program was founded in 2000. Concert attendees bring blankets and picnics, with groups of friends joining in and dancing in front of the stage as the night progresses.

      We hold these truths to be self evident,
      that all men are created equal, that they are
      endowed by their Creator with certain
      unalienable Rights, that among these are 
      Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
      That to secure these rights, 
      Governments are instituted among Men, 
      deriving their just powers from consent of
      the governed.  That whenever any form of 
      Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is 
      the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it,
      and to institute new Government, laying its foundation 
      on such principles and organizing its powers in 
      such form, as to them shall seem most likely
      to effect their Safety and Happiness.

I delight in sharing information about our wonderful Santa Barbara lifestyle. Volunteering with the Assistance League of Santa Barbara, The Teacher’s Fund, Santa Barbara Association of Realtors keeps me active. Currently, I serve as Chair of the non-profit Mastick Foundation. My late husband and I mentored and housed collegiate athletes playing summer baseball with the Santa Barbara Forester organization. With Doug now fly-fishing in heaven, I enjoy traveling with girlfriends. My bragging rights include numerous awards from my peers at the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors and the SB Newspress Readers’ Choice Award as Realtor of the Year.
