FAMILY FRIENDLY WORKSHOP | Found Object Mobiles THIS SATURDAY, MAY 1, 2021 @ 11:00 AM PST Join us this Saturday morning as we learn how to create hanging mobiles using repurposed objects from around your home or items found outdoors. This workshop is a great way to find beauty in overlooked, everyday resources. We will explore how various materials can be used to create mobiles, and demonstrate how to construct, tie, and balance a hanging mobile. This event is free to all and we encourage people of all ages to attend. See you there!

At this time, we are offering the sale of our Cabanas and Tents for your enjoyment in our safe and distanced environment. Each cabana can accommodate 10 people and the Ocean / Mountain Tents 20 people maximum.

**Due to Covid Regulations - General Admission Ticket Sales are currently Not Available. We hope to be able to offer general admission tickets later in the season pending tier progression**

Santa Barbara Botanical Garden celebrates Earth Month

 

Happy Earth Month! It's always the right time to celebrate native plants and all they do for mother earth, but April has been deemed Earth Month, Native Plant Month, and Community Science month. Earth Day takes place on April 22 and is recognized as the largest civic event in the world. The movement began in our own backyard in response to the 1969 oil spill, inspiring us to act towards the protection of the environment and focus on the need for conservation. The Garden invites you to join us in celebrating uniquely beautiful Cal flora and take steps to make an impact in the face of a growing climate crisis.

What You Can Do To Help:

Spend time in nature Recharge at Garden this month. Let your child's imagination run wild in our Garden Casitas or explore the Garden through our flower-themed scavenger hunt.  The Garden happily welcomes all dogs on leash, so bring your four-legged friend to get some fresh air. Please be respectful of our plants and others by cleaning up after your pup and keeping them on the trail. Look for our designated "photo spot" chalkboard signs to find the best places to capture iconic photos of you and your loved ones. Come by on Earth Day to find conservation tips throughout the Garden, native plant inspiration from our home demonstration display, or shop the largest selection of native plants in our Nursery.  Get your Earth Day wildflower fix through a virtual stroll with Scot Pipkin, Director of Education and Engagement, as he Instagram livestreams in the Garden from 11am-12:30pm on April 22.  All information and photos from the SB Botanic Gardens Newsletter

36th Santa Barbara International Film Festival March 31 - April 10, 2021 What: Santa Barbara International Film Festival When: The 36th annual festival is taking place this year March 31st - April 10th Where: 140 Loma Alta Rd. Santa Barbara, CA 92054 How to Watch: For the first festival doing side-by-side beachfront drive-ins that will be offered for free to the general public, with a hybrid ticketing model for online attendees. All films will be available after the opening night and available for viewing immediately so you can spend your days binging top content from around the world (Netflix-style). Who: International talent from the best in film will descend on SB via LIVE virtual tributes to talk about their careers and why these types of festivals are critical to the overall entertainment community. Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Sea Center Opens!

We're delighted to share that starting Friday, March 5, the Sea Center will be bringing exhibits outdoors from Friday–Sunday, 11:00 AM–4:00 PM (weather permitting). No reservations are required, and admission is just $7/person. Free for Members, join today.

Sign up for our free Change in the Weather workshop this Thursday, March 4 to get empowered for conversations about climate change, and join our next Science Pub From Home on Monday, March 8 to hear conservationist and TV presenter Stephanie Arne explain the international effort to save the remaining 1% of African Penguins.

Parents, registration is now open for Nature Adventures spring camps and classes for ages 4–12, and includes both online and at-home activities. Members receive discounts.

Finally, we invite you to join us for our next Natural History of Wine, Beer & Spirits on March 27 when we will explore the connection between entomology and the delicious wine produced by the Margerum Wine Company.

Santa Botanic Garden Update

 

Early Blooms in the Garden! Winter rains have started and the ceanothus is blooming! Look for fuzzy blue blooms around the Garden during your next visit, and be sure to stop by our Nursery to shop native plants for a beautiful, vibrant spring garden.

Native Plant Nursery

In the Meadow Salvias of various sorts are starting to bloom around the Meadow as well as a few California Poppies. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for seeding our meadow back in December! Senior Free Days in 2021 Thanks to our generous sponsor, Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapels, the Garden is providing six free admission days to Seniors 60 years of age and better in 2021. Seniors unable to visit in person can still experience the joy and beauty of the Garden through through virtual tours, fun videos, and our MeadowCam livestream on our website during each Senior Free Day! Santa Barbara Area Cold Spring's Tavern

 

Cold Spring Tavern - fabulous food and atmosphere

Along the San Marcos Pass lies The Cold Spring Tavern, an old-fashioned restaurant rooted in history and rustic charm. While the original structure was believed to be built in 1860, it began operating as a stagecoach stop in 1868. The stagecoach company provided services to passengers traveling between Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez and also carried mail. Today, the tavern serves up homemade food, including their famous tri-tip, to travelers looking for a good hearty meal in a friendly, inviting atmosphere.

The restaurant has a wonderful outside covered patio.  The drive on highway 154 from Santa Barbara is breathtaking and worth the 15-minute drive to the Tavern.

Cold Spring Tavern will be open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the month of February for carry-out and take-away orders only. We will not be re-opening full service outdoor dining yet. We do have picnic tables (socially distanced) in the front of the Tavern that are available on a first come first service basis for you to enjoy your carry-out. There are also many beautiful spots close to the Tavern to pull off and enjoy a picnic lunch.

In addition to our regular lunch menu we also have many great bottles of wine available for purchase, as well as gift cards and Cold Spring Tavern t-shirts, hats, and sweatshirts.
