Ellen DeGeneres Buys Mansion in Montecito

Santa Barbara Welcomes
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

The 13-acre Estate in the Montecito suburb of
Santa Barbara was most recently owned by
Designer John Saladino who completed a major
renovation of the stunning two-story Tuscan-style
Villa.  Originally built in 1928 by architect
Wallace Frost, the property was listed by my associate
Mitchell Morehart of Village Properties
at $26.5 million dollars.
The villa has 9 fireplaces, an 800 s.f. living room,
dining room and media room.  The Mansion includes five
bedrooms and seven bathrooms, of which the master,
luxurious bath and a second en suite are downstairs with
the remaining bedrooms and a sitting room up.  All in all
a total of 10,500 square feet of home surrounded
by lush gardens, the property provides plenty of
sumptuous Montecito style living for the entertaining
couple.

2013 Music Academy Summer Festival June 17-August 10

The Santa Barbara Music Academy of the West

Mission

The Music Academy of the West makes a unique and enduring contribution to the world of classical music by:
  • Advancing the development of the next generation of great classical musicians
  • Cultivating discerning, appreciative, and adventurous audiences

History

The Music Academy of the West was founded in 1947 by a group of visionary Southern California arts patrons and musicians, including the legendary soprano Lotte Lehmann and the famed conductor Otto Klemperer.
Initially serving 54 young artists, the Academy’s first four summer sessions took place at Cate School in Carpinteria. To this day, Cate remains an integral part of the Music Academy, housing Fellows and the Academy’s Voice Program.
Also contributing to the Academy’s beginnings were Ernest Bloch, Richard Lert, Darius Milhaud, Gregor Piatigorsky, William Primrose, Arnold Schoenberg, Reginald Stewart, Lawrence Tibbett, and John Charles Thomas, who together with Roman Totenberg, Richard Bonelli, and England’s Griller String Quartet, formed the faculty in the early years.
Four years after it opened, the Academy relocated to its current home, the former estate of John Percival Jefferson.

LIFE

Gary and Marilyn Siegel are opening their train layouts
to the public this weekend.
Mr. Siegel has recreated the world of trains with
an outdoor layout that he said is reminiscent  of the 1960s
and early 70's .  The electric model trains represent  the diesel-
electric trains used on the Santa Cruze-San Jose run.
The layout adds up to about 1500 feet of track.
