Goleta's West Wind Drive In Movie Theater is Open and lots of fun!
They arrived with blankets, snacks and face masks.
Vehicles of all sizes — SUVs, pickup trucks, vans, midsize cars and compacts — snaked around Goleta’s West Wind Drive-In and filled the dirt parking lot before the red-orange sunset.
With hatchbacks popped open and tailgates down, moviegoers sat back and relaxed while waiting for the film to start.
On Thursday, families and friends enjoyed a movie night at the outdoor drive-in theater as part of UCSB Arts & Lectures’ film screenings. The in-car entertainment is a new attraction for some locals.
“My friend is going out of town tomorrow, so we thought this would be a fun thing to do,” Linda Sessler said. “We have never tried it.”
UCSB Arts & Lectures is offering free drive-in cinema screenings through mid-December at the drive-in theater at 907 S. Kellogg Ave. The film series will feature Selena, Lady Bird, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spare Parts, Inception, Whale Rider, Yesterday, Cinnamon, Elf and It’s a Wonderful Life.
The organization is planning to show double features once a week through Dec. 16, and most events feature a lineup of two different films, with a few exceptions. Gates open 1½ hours before the first film.
The drive-in attraction is making a big comeback amid the COVID-19 public health crisis, and more than half of the outside venue was filled for Thursday’s movie. It’s a chance to come together as a community while following the latest public guidance on the coronavirus.

Drive In Movie Free - By UCSB
Wed, Aug 26 / 8:30 PM
West Wind Drive-in / FREE
In West London, 18-year-old girls Jess (Parminder Nagra) and Jules (Keira Knightley) dream of playing professional soccer like their idol David Beckham. But Jess' Sikh parents have more conventional plans – a law degree and marriage – while Jules' mother wishes for a daughter more interested in boys than soccer. With a cast including Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Archie Panjabi and Juliet Stevenson, Bend it Like Beckham is a hilarious comedy about friendship and family that will have you cheering from the sideline! (Gurinder Chadha, 2002, PG-13, 112 min.)
Gates open at 7:00 PM. First come, first served.
Arrive early to enjoy food trucks, concessions and entertainment!

Santa Botanic Garden is Open to Visitors.
Here is information about visiting The Garden during the COVID time. All information and photo is from the Botanic Garden Website and Newsletter.
Visiting the Garden
The Garden is now open to guests, every day from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Members may arrive early for Members-Only hour 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. every day that the Garden is open. Not a member yet? Join today!
How This Works
Please enter through the Garden's parking lot, where you will be greeted by Garden staff and directed to a parking spot.
Park, pay for admission or show your proof of membership at our admission kiosk, maintain 6-foot social distancing protocols, keep your mask on, and enjoy the Garden!
No one will be admitted without a face mask.
What to Expect
Bring your own water. Water fountains have been turned off. Please prepare for hot weather; it’s better to carry too much water than not enough.
Many high-touch and narrowly-spaced features are closed temporarily. Closures include Garden Casitas, the Children’s Centennial Maze, tables, chairs, and some of our small, narrow trails. Some narrow trails will have one-way traffic only.
No interior spaces are open at this time including the Pritzlaff Conservation Center. The retail Nursery is closed.
Bathrooms are available behind the admission kiosk.
Gates will close at 5 PM each day.
Keeping Us All Healthy
If you are sick, please stay home.
All visitors over the age of 2 must wear a face covering at all times.
Leave 6 feet of space between you and others not in your group.
Limit touch! There are plenty of things to hear, see, and smell without touching.
Practice good hygiene: wash your hands, refrain from touching your face, and use hand sanitizer often (we have some for you at the admission kiosk!).
Stay to the right on trails to allow others to pass. If passing another visitor, please announce yourself.
Please follow our signs; some trails are one-way only.
The Fine Print
The health and safety of our members, volunteers and staff are our first priorities. Mandates and recommendations from government officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may change our ability to follow this limited opening plan. Despite our stringent cleaning and sanitizing protocols, we cannot control all circumstances. By entering our premises, you acknowledge that you assume any risks associated with your visit, including but not limited to a risk of injury or illness. If we find that guests are not following appropriate social distancing or other guidelines, we may be forced to completely close again. Please check our website for any changes or updates.
