10:00am to 10:00pm

Funk Zone Arts Festival

The Funk Zone Neighborhood Association and the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative will celebrate the
richness and diversity of Santa Barbara's Funk Zone on October 19, 2013. The second annual Funk Zone
Arts Festival will be a neighborhood-wide day of events across this unique arts, business, and industrial
district. Explore the locally-owned businesses, galleries, studios, and restaurants that inspired journalist
Charles Donolan to deem this area“the new capital of hip.”
Santa Barbara locals may know of the burgeoning development of this oceanfront neighborhood,
stretching from State to Garden Streets and tucked between the 101 and the beach.
Packed into 11 square blocks are historic marine structures, industrial lots, and houses that have been transformed into some of the hottest destinations in the city.
Explore the area that Noozhawk predicts is“quickly becoming the most exciting draw on the South Coast.”
New to the neighborhood? Let an experienced eye introduce you to the Funk Zone with ArchitecTours.
Join an anticipated 10,000 people along the Urban Wine Trail, meet Santa Barbara's renowned community
of artists and gallerists, and learn what puts the funk in the Funk Zone.
Current participants include AMASS Gallery, the Art Crawl, the Arts Fund, Cabana Home, CMND-Z, the
Santa Barbara Art Foundry, GONE Gallery, Green House Studios, Koplin/Levin Studio, Karl Kras Design
Studio, Le Chambre Photographique, Lark, Lucky Penny, the Lights Project, Pianos on State, Metropulos

Santa Barbara County Vintners' Association Celebration, Saturday October 12th

Santa Barbara County
Celebration of Harvest Weekend
October 11 - 14

The Celebration of Harvest Weekend, our annual celebration of the year's bounty, where vintners take a break from the vineyards and cellars to pour their wines and share harvest tales. The highlight of the Columbus Day weekend is the Celebration of Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 12 at the Rancho Sisquoc Winery in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine County in Santa Maria Valley, where more than 100 Santa Barbara County wineries gather to present their wines, often poured by the winemakers themselves. The Festival also presents some of the best local food from restaurants, catering companies and gourmet food creators.
Throughout the weekend select wineries host their own events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, ranging from winemaker dinners through library tastings and sales to new wine releases and barrel tastings.
A favorite feature of the weekend is the Vintners' Visa - your passport to complimentary wine tastings at twelve winery tasting rooms - use the Vintners' Visa to explore new wineries - or revisit old friends. The Vintners' Visa can be used on all four days of the long weekend - Friday October 11th through Monday October 14th. It is a great value at only $35 per person!

Pianos on State Street October 10-21

The Miro inspired Piano, painted by local artists, inlcuding my
friend Judy Nilsen, second from right.

Fourth Annual Pianos on State
is a collaborative musical experiment
coinciding with the
2013 New Noise
Festival & Conference

October 10-21
9 am-9 pm
12 pianos all painted by local artists

Anyone who wants can "tickle the ivories"
The goal is to simply let people enjoy music.
It is a community project and the more people who
participate the better.
Last year I watched a very senior lady (her daughter
said she was in her mid eighties) sit down
at the yellow piano in front of BofA in the
800 block of State Street and gleefully
entertain a gathering crowd!
